You are not a well-oiled machine.
You’re a body
with heart disease
weak in the limbs
and dim in the eyes.

You’re forgetful,
and yet
time
and time again
you look to the One
who loves you with his life.

You lift your head,
revive your heart,
strengthen your limp arms
and take another step with your bad knees.

Your face lights up at his words.

You’re getting stronger.
Your heart is enduring.
Your eyes are fixed on Jesus.
And every time you start to sink
down
into
the
mire,
You cry, “Save me!”
and he rescues you
time
and time again.

And he will keep rescuing you
until you see him
and then
you’ll laugh
and leap
and shine with strength.
